What are the best rear hi performance brake pads for a 95+ explorer and where can i get them? Autozone.com only has hi po pads for the front, and I havent been able to find them for the rear anywhere. Just lookin for some opinions.........

You may want to try Performance Friction. You can find what they offer and the part numbers for your application. Autozone should be able to get them for you since they carry the front pads.

The reason no "High Performance" pads are available for the rear is because they aren't really necessary. The front does 70-75% of the braking as opposed 25-30% at the rear. The factory uses semi-metalic pads and are more than capable for everything but extended runs on the road racing coarse or extreemly serious towing. Unless you are attempting to build your X to compete in SCCA there is no need to upgrade the rear brakes.

yup. i would say performance friction. they have a really good reputation. mr boyle is right though, the fronts do most of the braking.

thanks everybody for the advice....i just wanted to replace the pads at the same time so I wouldn't get uneven pad wear, but if the fronts do more work they would naturally wear down faster? right? whatever. I'm also going to try to hook up some ghetto front brake cooling ducts with funnels, screens, hoses and zip ties and having the outlet dump right in front of the caliper, seeing that that is the only location where the disc doesn't have that stupid shield on the inside edge. I'll keep everybody posted and mount some pix. I don't know what kind of performance to expect but cooler rotors are better rotors cuz i do a lot of driving in the hills.
