I just finished making this fiberglass gauge/radar detector pod for troll's truck. The gauges don't match because I just put 2 random gauges in the pod for the pictures.

Troll hasn't even seen this piece yet. He will be seeing for the first time on this web page.

I am really pleased with the final outcome. I even covered the fiberglass center center section with the factory type suede texture. The fit, finish and texture are just like it would have come from Ford.

In the third picture, you can really see how deeply sunken in the gauges are. I did this to try to keep sunlight glare at a minimum.

what do you guys think??

Andrew

looks awesome! Is that a Valentine 1 radar detector screen in there? I've always wanted one of those but there a bit out of my price range... looks sweet!

Andrew,
Looks great! Where is that going to mount in Troll's truck? Also - how did you make that out of glass? Did you make a mold first or glass-over frame?

jon,

that fits in the forward part of the center console. It replaces the 2 storage pockets on troll's explorer. Some explorer's have the information center/ trip computer in that location.

As far as the fiberglass goes, I used part of the original pocket so that the new piece would fit perfectly to the black plactic shroud.

It looks very similar to mine:

I thought about doing a whole custom job but just decided to do it simply this way. I just took an Autometer aluminum mounting plate and fastened it in from the top of the pocket. I don't really have a problem with glare but the space between the plate and the edges of the console don't look very good. One of these days I'll go get some suade fabric and put it in there around the edges.

I didn't realize the V1 detector is so small. I'm getting one next year, so maybe that's where I'll put it. Is that a remote face or the entire unit? Does that low, shielded mounting spot interfere with the function of the unit?

Thanks, and great job!

Andrew,
Thanks - I wanted to fab something for that spot, but it isn't easy with a '93 - no template to go with. I do like how that sets up though. Looks great!

Alec,

that is the remote display for the valentine one.

I think Troll has the man unit up on the windshield.

Looks really nice. I have the computer though so i couldnt do that. I was thinking of building an a/c vent set-up like my stang... to add a few more gauges- i love guages- lol.... whats the switch for????

the switch is for fog lights. it is one of the first mods Troll ever did. The Nos switches are in the center console.
