Any help would be appreciated! Just purchased a 2004 XLT about a month ago. It has 69k miles on it, about a week after purchasing it, it stalled as I was turning hard left into my driveway. It simply died and it was like I lost all power, steering, brakes, etc... and all the dash lights were on as if the key was just turned on.

I put it in neutral and it fired right up no problem. It runs excellent otherwise and about 3 weeks later it did it again, this time i was going about 30 mph or so.

I've searched and found several posts about the truck stalling while using cruise control but I wasn't using it in either case. Any Ideas????? A short? Throttle position sensor??

Thanks!!

Stall happens in Limiteds as well

I have a 2007 Limited and I also have experienced stalling as of late while driving at about 30 - 40 miles per hour. Have had a thorough exam at the dealer. Didn't replicate problem - they reset the whole computer, it keeps stalling. Am going to take it back again...

Explorer stall - fixed?

I think my problem with stalling is now fixed - apparently there is a known problem with the fuel pump. They replaced something called an overlay wire that connects to the fuel pump from the front to the back of the vehicle. The stalling has stopped and it also improved the acceleration. If you haven't tried that, it might work.

my 2002 4.0 stalls while driving. were you able to fix your stalling problem? just wondering if you tried replacing the wiring.

I think I found my issue. The connector to my inertia switch is melted. I checked it before, but never pulled out the connector. No idea why it would have melted.

So until I get a new plug and inertia switch, I just shorted the connection with a wire. Hopefully I won't roll it over or get into an accident in the meantime.

So a 50cent part has cost about $700. I've taken it to ford dealer twice, midas once, replaced the fuel pump and a ton of sensors, etc... Some stuff needed to be replaced anyways, but I spent about $300 at ford and midas having them trying to diagnose the problem.

Before I had just pulled the cover off and checked the connection, but never removed it ... stupid me ...

Update:

Car now throws a code, and the stalling is even WORSE than ever.

Code is P0193

Possible Fuel pressure problem, or problem with the sensor.
Car stalls when it's warm. Basically it starts surging before dieing out.
