I need some advice with my headlights. I just bought my truck (01 Explorer XLS) and my highs arent working. They dont work in either "on" or "momentary" and the blue indicator light in the dash does not light up. I just replaced the multi switch today and no luck. I know there aren't any relays or fuses specifically for the highs and the fillaments on the bulbs look brand new. Anyone know of anything else?

I think you are wrong about the "no fuse" for the highs.

really? which one is it? looked through the owners manual and didnt see one listed but if you know which one it is i can check that. a cursory look over showed no blown fuses in the two main boxes

just test them all (don't forget the ones under the hood).

auto parts stores sell a great little gizmo (about $8 made by BUSS) for testing fuses in place. it adjusts to test small and large style fuses. it's a battery powered type continuity tester. when the fuse is good it lights up. if it's blown it won't. it requires no power from the vehicle and you don't even need to remove the fuses from the panel to test them. i find it easier than trying to figure out which fuse is supposed to be the right one to check (i've also found owner's manuals are sometimes incorrect).

you wouldn't happen to have daytime running lights option... :-)

Go back and check the MFS connector; sometimes one or more wires back out of the connector and thus don't make contact when it's plugged in.

I had this exact same issue with my '02. Had to replace the Multi-Function switch. It's your main steering column "switch", turn signals, wipers, headlights, etc.....
