High Pitch Humming Noise

Guys,

I have a high pitched humming noice coming from my Air Intake unit. Seems to be around the air filter. I have tried several different brands of Filter thinking that it was that with no success. Its very loud and quite embarrassing when driving thru a parking lot and people looking at you from the loud sound. I have a 99 XLT. Anyone else have this problem? If so can you help me fix it.

Its your IAC. Replace that, and you'll be fine. Do a search. Cleaning is so temporary it's not worth it.

Okay, I am ignorant, whats an IAC????

Idle air control valve. Its on the side of the intake. 2 bolts, one electrical connection.

Ask your dealer for the correct model - there are two IACs that can go on Explorers. Look to pay between 80 and 120 for the part. You can change it easily yourself; don't have the dealer charge you to do it.

NAPA has them for about $60. It is the simplest repair you will ever do.
