High Pitched Whine from Engine Bay

OEM fixed the problem in this case. The OEM that I replaced had 73,000 miles on it and was pretty beat up.

I'll file this thread item under "your learn something new every day".

I am going for a long-distance test on my original belt. Now at 93K miles and 6 years old and still looks good. I have never had a serpentine belt fail, nor have I ever seen one fail or heard of one failing.

I would keep an extra one on hand just in case.
I have only had one fail where the belt actually broke.
As for the others they just started slipping, causing belt squeak, or in this case a hideous whine.

If I were you and had a belt that old, I would replace it ASAP.

I haver had belt separation as well as complete break.

With the old V-belts, I cannot recall how long they lasted, but it was nowhere close to the length of life of these new serpentine belts. Seems like we replaced them all the time.

I had been replacing serpentine belts that seemed perfectly good at 75K miles, but the owner's manual says replace at 100K (I think - but I will recheck), so I am going to hold off for now.

I do think I will go ahead and buy a new one just in case, but I probably will not replace it until I get closer to 100K. I'll probably do it when I do the spark plugs (also original and never removed to date).
