Well, after 8 months of tinkering, replacing and alot of cussing, my backfiring at high RPMs is fixed. Mine would make a muffled, but very noticable pop or series of pops that seemed to origionate from somewhere under the hood at high RPMs, like 4000 and higher when under full throttle, or shifting down into passing gear. It has been driving me nuts for a long time and have replaced TPS, FPR, removed and cleaned injectors, cleaners, checked exhaust and converters, fuel pump (was bad anyway), and countless other things. Power and mileage was also off a little too. While staring at it and cussing under my breath today, I removed the cap on the schrader valve on the fuel rail, and there was gas in the cap, and fuel very slowly ran out of it, but it wasn't leaking externally. I replaced the valve core and have run it for 2 days........problem solved so far!!! I can't believe it was so simple, if it reverts back, I'll let you know, but so far so good. I'm hoping the mileage returns to normal too.
I have seen a few other with similar problems, might try it, it;s cheap and easy.
