Hey guys, I had recently had my X in a shop to get a few things done, they said my rear pinion gear needed to be rebuilt within a decent amount of time, so that was on the to do list this summer.

However, my truck was in the shop while I was home on Friday to get front diff (AWD) seal replaced, I left to head back to Boston on Saturday and had large vibrations at highway speeds, which depended upon 65+ up to 80 where I got uncomfortable putting that much stress on whatever was vibrating and almost grinding a bit. This happened all of a sudden. My shop has no idea what it is, it is not related to their seal work, or the front ball joints.

Can this be due to the pinion gear needing to be replaced? Does it make sense this came about all of a sudden (no little vibrations leading up to last Sat)?

Did they have the drive shaft out? If so they could have got it out of phase when they put it back in.

They also could have damaged a CV in the axle shaft.

I'd say they messed something up. Don't let them make you pay until they prove that they did not do something wrong.

Yeah, they said they only touched a 'pin' to replace the seal...??? But the highway driving is comparable to light and day, especially for guys like us who knows our explorers feel.

The place is owned by family friends, so I find it hard that after many years of business things would change. But I have no other explaination for what is happening...

Was it the diff cover seal, one of the axle seals or the pinion seal that was repalced?

It was a seal on the front diff case (AWD), I dont have anything in front of me to confirm the name right now...
