well i just put on my nitrous set up and im running into this problem..w/ the 80 **** its ok but i have a 125 shot in there now and it will hit the rev limiter right before it shifts..i would really want a chip that raises the rev limiter up about 1000rpm(6250 or so).. im also thinking a shift kit that makes it shift really fast so it wont have time to tag the limiter..any ideas guy? i need to get by this so i can put the 150 hp shot on there !!:fire:

I don't know how you have it set up now, but a momentary switch is a good idea. That way you can take your finger off the switch when the truck shifts. Also, it serves as a "dead man" switch so that if anything happens, the spray stops. I'm about to install my N2O and am gonna have a momentary switch on the backside of the steering wheel in addition to the arming switch in the console.

But, a reprogrammed chip is a good idea. You have another option though since you have a 5.0. You can get the Hypertech programmer and reprogram the stock computer without getting another module. An added benefit is that the programmer stores the stock and mod settings so you can reset easily.

As for the tranny, a shift kit (electronic, vacuum, or otherwise) is usually a good idea to prolong tranny life and increase performance.

ALEC:i have an arming switch in the cab then i have a WOT switch on the throttle body..if anything i'll add a window switch so it will cut the nitrous before the shift point... i just dont want to do that if i dont have to .. the hypertech programmer i have is off the truck for a while because the last thing you want to do is add timing when on the NOS ..

The reprogrammer should let you custom program everything, including the timing. I'm talking about the one that plugs in like a code reader. As for the switches, window switches are expensive, that's why I suggested the manual switch.

My N2O kit has an arming switch (of course) in the cab and a tap to the TPS. I'm going to wire a manual momentary toggle to the TPS splices to activate the spray by hand. That way I have complete control and even when armed the spray can't surprise me.

Most of the guys I know that run nitrous let off right before the tranny shifts so you're not channelling that extra 100 or so HP through it and burning things up.

If anything, a shift kit would probably prolong the shifting... The kit I have on my Mustang holds the gear as long as you want and downshifts at any speed to any gear with enough throttle. When you're at WOT and want to shift early (before about 5800), you have to kinda play with the throttle, ease up a bit. It would make it shift alot faster (I catch tire from both 1-2 and 2-3), but it will hold the gears longer too, if its anything like my kit.

hey alec are you familiar w/ the hypertech programmer? these things suck and dont let you do any of the things your thinking of.. i cant believe some people will pay $350 for this thing new.. only reason i got it was because it was part of a good deal i got w/ the mass air too..im wondering if a diablo chip will raise the limiter..

I've just seen the Hypertech programmers for other vehicles and assumed they were basically the same. I'm sorry if the Ford 5.0 one sucks.

Call Superchip or Diablo and I'm sure they can do something for you. I know Superchip has a "flip chip" that can have multiple programs on it, and you swap between them for the street, strip, N2O, etc. That might be a good idea.

Try searching posts by Troll and Blkmk8. They have alot of chip & nitrous experience and could give you some good advice. Their website is www.speedfreak.cc
