I've read that some people have drilled holes in their ait filter box. Does this actuall do anything? If so, could someone give some instructions on how to do so. I have a 97 with a 4.0 SOHC (so its a round air filter). Also, does a K&N filter give any noticable difference with this mod? Thanks fo the help.

I've got a '94, square filter box with drop in filter. I drilled about half a dozen 1/2" holes in my box so that water would drain out better. My air box still had water in it a week after a water crossing. I can't say for certain that it helped performance, since I didn't really measure anything before or after.

I did do a before and after test with my drop-in K&N filter, timing the truck up a steep inclined street. Not very scientific, but the K&N made a noticable difference in power.

Take out the snorkel and cut a large hole in the botttom.

Or, just take the air box/filter cover off and crimp the retaining ring to keep the filter in place. I have had it like this for a couple of years after someone here posted about it.

Is That a K&N on there? It looks a lot smaller than mine. Does it fit tight?

thanks for the help.

Yes its a K & N. And yes it fits tight. You just gotta crimp the retaining ring.

Waste of time and a perfectly good air cleaner if you ask me.

But not a waste of money like a KKM would be!!! I only cut a hole in the bottom so I can still have cooler air in the summer time. I also put the snorkel back on for the summer. I don't understand why so many people like getting hot air with the KKM's.

Are you guys saying that the kkm kits arent worth getting? I just bought a k&n air filter today and I noticed a huge difference.

I don't think they are. Plus they suck in hot air. Check out the other post about this.
