Well, anyone in the SF Bay area want to go to Hollister for a day? What's it like this time of year? Would it be just a mudding session?

tdavis,
Did you have date in mind? I have been there a number of times, but can't recall what it's like this time of the year. I don't think it would necessarily be a mudding session, but who knows.
Hey Khoa, how about you? you game?

Ok, I just got the truck back from getting new bumpers put on - smittybuilt tubes on the front and back (and had the back modified, so it has a 2" receiver in it).

I've got to fix the turn signals on the front this weekend - how about either the 19th or 20th of Feb? (sat, sunday)

Hey Thomas, Khoa,
I can make it on the 19th, so let's all meet at the ranger station. Oh Khoa thanks for the info. I almost forgot about how bad the clay gets when wet. I usually DON'T go when it wet.

Feb 19th it is! What time? 9am? 10am? I'd prefer 9 - that way we've got time to get unstuck! Dead Link Removed

Also, I'll be bringing a CB, a strap, gloves, and I'll be putting on tow hooks this weekend (2 on each end - can't too sure! Dead Link Removed)

As for clay - oh my! I haven't driven in clay for a while. (I was born and raised in Nebraska - so slick surfaces in the winter time was fun!)

Thomas

Hey Ray et al -

I'm game for the 19th. It's raining here so it'll definitely be a mud bath down there. Sorry I can't make it this weekend. The mrs. and I have made plans.

Caution to TDavis and BAExplorer, when it's wet in Hollister, even the green tame trails are extremely slippery and treacherous. Know where you're going and what can be expected at the other end. On some trails, you may be able to go down but if they are extremely wet and slippery, you may not be able to climb back up. I went down there last year after a big rain and almost wet my pants a few times. White knuckles, pale face, lots unanticipated directional movements from the truck. My friend almost flipped over while making a turn. His truck lost traction and slid in the middle of a turn, got the left front tire caught in a crevice, and the whole thing popped up in the air. You could practicaly push it over with one finger. It was definitely a memorable moment.

Make sure you have recovery straps, booties, CB's, and at least one other vehicle with you if you go this weekend.

Khoa.

Yeah, lets do it Dead Link Removed I'm down for the 19th. Not sure if I can be there at 9:00 since I will be bringing my family and morning are not my wifes big thing. If you give me a CB channel to monitor though and check the obsticle course frequently that will work, however I will do my best to be there at 9:00.
Okay, now for the big question. My freind would like to go as well, but there is only one problem. He has a CHEVY!!! He won't go by himself cause he needs me to pull him out of the med pit. Is it allright if he tags along? We can put him in the back of the line.

Sure, bring him on down, I have no objections! I need photos of a chevy being pulled out by a ford.. Dead Link Removed

The weather forecast for this week looks very interesting - rain, rain, and more rain! So, it looks like Hollister is going to be wild, slippery, muddy, and wet. If feel like that's too crazy for you, please let us know, so we won't be looking for you!

Hey Mac,
Glad to hear that your coming. I think we should try monitoring channel 2. We tried channel 1 and 5 before and got too many people on those channels. Dead Link Removed

9:00 AM at the Ranger office sounds good. Channel 2 it is.

If anyone has those 2-way radios with 38 sub channels, they work really well also. But everyone else will have to have it also.

Ray - right now, I'm pretty sure it's a go on Saturday but I can't be absolutely sure until Wednesday.

Ok, here's the roundup of details for hollister, this weekend, Feb 19.

1) I'm planning on being there at 9am. From there, we will probably be at the obstacle course for the AM. If your late, check there. I will be driving down from Oakland, (Keller Ave->I580->I237->I880->hwy 101->hwy 156), leaving about 7am. If you want to caravan, let me know, and where you want to join in!

2) We will be using cb radio channel *2*

3) If you don't know where hollister is, check OHMVR Division, or (dead links) for more information.

4) There is a $4 park entrance fee. Bring money!

5) I'll be calling the park tomorrow, to verify it's open. (The web calendar says it's open - but just to be safe..)

6) Even if your explorer is stock, come on down. We'll be gentle.

7) Please let us know if your coming, and if possible, what time, so we can be on the lookout for you (vehicle color will help too).

Any questions?

Thomas

This sounds like it will turn out to be a good gathering of Explorers but I'll have to miss this event. We have to head down to Southern California early tomorrow.

I'll try to catch you guys next time down at Hollister. Take pictures and post them.
