Coming home tonight, I was leaving a construction zone and used the accel button on the cruise control. THe vehicle began to accelerate and wouldn't slow down without holding my foot on the brake. When I got to the toll booth, I had to put it in neutral to stop and it revved to 5000 rpm. When I got home, I checked the throttle cable and it was sticking out of the housing about 1/2 inch and it apppears the ears were broken oof. Is this my problem?

Have someone work the throttle when the truck is off and just watch for where it binds up under the hood. Did your cruise motor fail somehow and stick the throttle?

I'll have to check under the cover and see if the cruise part of the linkage is stuck. I suspect the throttle cable should be flush with that cover and it sits about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch away because of the broken ears. And nobody seems to carry a cable. I'm trying to figure out a fix for that.

Go to a scrap yard, these trucks are all over them nowadays. Or check the parts section here I'm sure someone has something. But figured out what's wrong first.

The problem was cable where the ears had broken off. I called several yards. I finally found a 2000 Mountaineer with a cable.
