Holy Cross, CO, July 21, 2002

well I am pretty sure I will be in Colorado but the annual meeting for Northwest Mutual is the 20-24th of July in Milwaukee. I am interning with this company and this is a pretty big deal so I may be there earlier if anyone wants to run some trails earlier in the week.

I'm gone until the 15th, but anytime after that I'd be game to go on a trail if I'm not working...

Well, looks like I'm pretty much 100% coming. I'll be staying with Rick in AZ for a night or 2 (Thanks Rick!!!) then driving up to CO with him. Splat might be on 32's by then, but he'll still be content waiting at the trailhead. I guess I'll ride with Perry or Rick, I'll squeeze in somewhere ;) Actually, Marshall owes me a ride, too.

Anybody heard if Holy Cross is closed too? The fires shut down Hacket and alot of others. I am considering comming with you guys or Maybe Salida or Fort Collins because I know there still open, But who knows in a month it might all be clear, sucks anyway though.

That's a good question, I haven't heard anything about it, but lemme see if I can find something...

I couldn't find anything except the list of fire bans and stuff. There's a few national parks that are closed, and a couple counties that you can't go into the forest at all. I'm not sure what county it's in, so I couldn't help there.

I remembered another question though, Matt, Perry, anyone else that's run this...am I gonna need my locker for this one? I haven't put it in yet because I'm waiting for a cheap place to do the locker/gears, but Marshall said he'd be willing to give me a hand. So, should I put that sucker in there before the run?

Good luck man My brother in the spings Said he thought Pike National forest is shut down completly. I have been preping for my trip, I just hope there is somewhere to go!

As far as I know it is still open The guys over at the Colorado board went on the 15th I think and it was still open.

Hmmm....you might have. I was coming back from my Mom's and I was definately passing through there. I'm missing a head light, so that's how you would know if it's me or not....

I usually don't have it on anyways, sorry I missed ya. I tell ya what, I'll keep my CB on channel 21 whenever I go through littleton, if any of you guys see me, gimme a holler. These days I keep my CB atenna up cause I don't think anyone wants to reach up and get it :D

YES you will.

Hey, have a great time, do what you want to :) Jared asked for an opinion, I've been there, and would rather run the trail than be strapped all over it. You remember that last obstacle on Wheeler Lake? Did you make it over that one? I can't remember. That's pretty impressive if you did! :) Holy Cross has many of them, not just one single obstacle like that. Holy Cross is filled with those obstacles.

A NoSlip locker can be installed beforehand in about the same amount of time that will be used on the trail getting strapped that day. I am sure you will have fun no matter what you do; I was just suggesting what I would do in order to have the most fun out of the experience.

YESyou will!!!!!

need a locker. Like Gerald said that last obsticle on Wheeler would be a easy one for Holy Cross.
Plus it is a trail that a lot of people use so you don't want to be holding up a lot of people by being strapped. If I remember there were two places that Matt and I had to try 4-5 times to get up and we both have lockers.

That's my .02

I'd say yes you should have lockers... like Perry said, I had lockers and he had lockers and even we just sat there spinning our tires quite often, but without the locker we would've been even longer. Problem is there are many spots where a stream crosses or theres a big puddle just before a big obstacle so your tires are wet when you try it. Like Perry mentioned it is a heavily travelled trail and while for the most part people are quite patient, if you hold them up several times there likely to be less understanding... and thats when you start doing the three tries then you get a strap and that's it. So while it can be done, you'll possibly be doing a lot of strapping so definately need front and rear tow hooks, otherwise you'll be wasting everyone elses time.

ok well here are my plans, which are allowed to change, so far. That same weekend is the mile High Nationals at Bandimere which my family attends every year! So I will be there that weekend anyway but I am not sure about the X it may or may not be making the trip. I also am not sure if I will be able to get Monday off which will be the main factor of the whole ordeal! But I am going to try like hell to make it X or not! SOMEONE has to have another seat somewhere more than likely Shandell and Brendan wont come at all, run, race or whatever. As time gets closer things will be more definate but I will be in the area that weekend and would LOVE to meet up with everyone! Jared we can slap that locker in, in a few hours, while I am wherever we will also see about that later! So the moral of the story is MAYBE!

Well I went to the doctor today and I got some good news and some bad news. Gooe news is I can start bending which means I can tie my own shoes again, pick stuff up off the floor, help Teri around the house. The bad news is I can't go on the Holy Cross trip this year. He said I could maybe do some easy runs next month, but the hard stuff will have to wait until next year.
I guess if I take care of myself there will be plenty of time next year to go.

I hate having to pass up Holy Cross because I really liked that trail, but I want to make sure I can walk in the future years.

By the way, Teri is wondering if there is still going to be a BBQ????? We could still make that as long as it isn't the evening of the 21st.
