Hood lifters?

Has anyone rigged up some hood lifters on their explorer? I saw some at the junk yard the other day. They only want like 10 bucks for a pair. I was just wondering if anyone has done this. I know they sell them through Explorer Express, but they are like 75 bucks. I'd appreciate any help.

I think you would have to get the right size and make some brackets to make it fit.

By any chance would you know where they have a brackets mounted for the ones they sell in explorer express. Not a big deal, but just incase.

I'm not sure if you'd be able to buy just the brackets from them. They probably make them themselves, but you could always ask them if they would sell you some.

Yeah, I think I'll give them a ring tomorrow, and see what they say. I guess I could just say that I bought some and the brackets broke or something like that. I'll figure it out... when (or if) I do, I'll post it to let you guys know how it went.

Any word on this? I would be interested if you could get the 'shocks' and brackets off a late model Explorer and fit them to a 91 - 94.

They do...but they are expensive.

If I can retrofit a pair off a late model, the price will be significantly less.

those lifters are simply hydraulic shock things, you could probably get them at a local hardware store for screen doors or something, it might require a little drilling though. thats what i would suggest

You can also get them at auto parts tores, like Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Pepboys, Checkers, etc...
