I'm thinking about getting one of those little adapter things that lets you put subs into a stock system but have a few Q's.

How does it sound?

Can I control the audio?

How would I get my amp to power without a system control wire?

I'm not trying to cause earthquakes I just want a little thump. I have two Kenwood 10"'s and some 350 watt Kenwood amp or some nonsense. By no means killer but i had it hooked up in my old whip and it sounded good enough.

i'm not sure but with my '03 Radio, i had to use the Stock Sub Amp. OEM radio wouldn't put out any sub sound unless the stock Sub Amp is plugged in. Now i use speaker level inputs.

im running 2 rockford 10s from the little stock amp thats built into my 93 and it sounds pretty good. i have an alpine stereo with the bass EQ set all the way up and it gives me plenty of bass. try disconnecting the stock 6" sub in the back and extend the wires to your subs. mine are in series

Thanks for the responses but I think we have some confusion here. I have a stock 03 radio with the base sound system, no factory sub. What I'm pondering is getting one of those adapters to tap into the door speaker and give me a standard red/white audio connection and then from there wire in an existing system that I have, the traditional way. Being that I'd be getting a full signal instead of just base notes does anyone know how it'd sound? Also, how would i get the amp to power on without the signal cable and could i then control the sound on just the subs? I've seen systems with "bass knobs" before and have no idea how they are or work. Would something like this be possible?

Just buy a hi-lo converter, a good one will have a built in relay that will get you remote turn on, you can hook it up directly at your HU and run both sets of rca´s to a 4 ch amp for the doors, or you can splice at the rear speakers to run your sub, do a search here in the forum there are several posts regarding this

not to make you do my work but what do i search? hahah Thanks

hi-lo converter, add aftermarket amp to stock hu, start with that...
Here´s the deal, I added a 4ch amp to my stock HU, got a 4ch HI-LO converter, hooked it up directly at the HU, ran 2 sets of RCA´s all the way to the back, at the same time I ran the remote bass control that came with my amp, the control knob I just tossed it in the glove box, on the rear of the truck I installed my amp the standard way for the 4 dr speakers, my amp has an audio out, so from there I got the signal to feed my 2ch amp that I hooked my sub to.

The power for both comes directly from the batt, the grounds I got from a screw near where I mounted my amps.

Not sure what else would you need to know, as far as sound goes, it sounds really good for a budget system, of course if you want SQ, you´ll need to upgrade your full system, which I don´t think is what you want

I feel like a retart...but...On my amp i have a "speaker level input" plug. Does this mean can tap into a door speaker, run it into there and get a signal?

Yes you can do it like that as well
