Hose below thermostat housing R/R?

Okay, on my 01 with the SOHC V6, I've had the great misfortune of having the hose fail underneath the thermostat housing, in my driveway, so no harm done to engine, but I want to replace it, is it even doable without removing the upper intake? What's the best method of attack?

So, that's done, apparently my truck has an aftermarket water pump on it, the nipple on the pump touches the one on my thermostat housing, so that sucks, old hose wasn't old looking either, probably was done when the water pump was, had a nice bulge in it though.

Correct, though I will admit that it's a PITA.
