This is a very intermitent problem. Once maybe twice a month. Occasionally after long drives and short, if we stop somewhere for short periods of time (like at a gas station to fill up, or running errands) our 95 2wd xlt will not start. It just turns over and won't crank. It is not the pump or filter. These were replaced a year ago and I can here the pump whine with initial key on. I have replaced the fuel pump relay.

Any ideas? This seems to me only to be a problem when the engine is at normal warm temperatures after driving. No overheating just normal. Like I said this in not common to happen, but when it does, usually after it sits for ten minutes or so it will start right up like nothing has happened.

Welcome to this forum! So the engine turns over, but won't catch? Do you smell gas when you crank the starter? Either the engine is getting flooded, or there is no fuel pressure. Check your pressure with a pressure gauge while cranking the engine. Your fuel pressure regulator, mass air flow sensor, or engine coolant temperature sensor might be causing the problem.

Could this be something the computer would store as a fault code?

Not yet, but I will hook it up to a scanner this weekend and see. Thanks, I will be back to get more insight from this forum.

something that kills the motor abruptly or something that wont allow spark or fuel usually will not trigger a check engine light. you should be able to have your module tested although most tests are biased bc as i mentioned b4 modules are temperatue sensetive.

I have a '95 Explorer XLT and I'm having the exact same occassional "ENGINE HOT; WON'T START" problem and I too just had my fuel pump and filter replaced 3 months ago. I would be VERY interested to hear what you find out. If you check your codes please let me know what you find out. Thanks!

Problem Fixed???

I unhooked the negative cable on my battery for about 20 minutes, in effect resetting the computer, and have not had the problem since. I also made sure the automatic fuel pump shut off switch under the dash on passenger side was rest and plugged in tight. YEAH!!
