I'm planning on throwing in a system as soon as possible and I was curious if the 96 XLTs have any issues with body frame rattle noises from alot of bass? I know most SUVs are pretty good when it comes to not having alot of rattle coming from the bass.

The hatch will probably rattle a little but that should be about it. Mine isnt to bad.

I don't even have a system yet but if i roll down my driver window a little bit it rattles on bumps, none of the others do and if it's all the way down it won't but there seems to be just one spot it rattles, so if it rattles without bass...prolly would with?? that's my .02

just finished installing my temporary stereo...the only thing that rattles is the hatch.

I might be able to fix it though but possibly lowering the latch mechanism so it engages tighter...not sure yet though i havent looked at it

My system in my truck I've noticed that if I have my sunroof open it rattles but not closed and the back glass on the back hatch and the handle, Other then that the vehical handles the bass pretty well if you ask me.

thanks for the input
good responses :)
you guys say the hatch rattles
on the 96 I just have the turn handle to open the back so it's not really like a hatch?
does that rattle?

my hatch rattle is only audible from the outside of the truck...inside it sounds very crisp. i'll play with the latch a bit tomorrow, if that doesnt solve the problem screw it.

When i end up getting my sub wall in none of the sound will be going back there anyway ill have very little rattle without any effort at all

so hatch is only thing on the outside of the car that rattles?? My friend's got a camaro and the whole thing sounds like it's about to fall apart when it hit's bass...I want my system mainly to be good on the inside, but i don't want people thinking my car is gonna fall apart any second lol

I cant tell what rattles and what doesn't any more, I think my whole truck rattles...

yea, chevy doesn't recommend hi bass pounding systems in their product. leaves parts on the road....I had a system in s-10 blazer 2 door and it rattled the thing so bad I took the stereo out. The rear hatch on a blazer not only rattles but produces an ear peircing squeak that no stereo can drown out. I put the same system in a 94 sport w/ no problems. Make sure you bolt down the license plate tight, I did locate that as a problem. self adhesive foam pad on back of plate did the trick. I had 2 8" bazooka es tubes (the good ones) hooked up to a 2 channel 250 watt amp w/ rockford fosgate 6x8 speakers in doors and panels. good luck.

ditto on what dave said

wow.. i have 2 Jl 12 w3v2 and a jl 500/1 and my back hatch rattles like it wants to run away. i had dynomat on it, but didnt work to well. my buddy and me are going to try something. dont know if it will work. i will let yall know if it helps. I know it will sound funny. but stuff pillows in the hatch. -TJ

My hatch rattles. I even have the stock system, but it's not just any stock system. The one that comes on the Limiteds is nice, I don't think I'll be messin with the system anytime soon

I was thinking about stuffing fiberglass insulation everywhere. But I'm afraid to do it in the due to water seeping in.

expanding foam works well

takes a long time though.

dynomat is overpriced and overused

what i never liked about expanding foam is it seems permanent. what if you need to run a wire someday?

yea good point...ive always used expanding foam in my trunk lids...this is only my second hatch vehicle...my first was a camaro and surprisingly the only thing to rattle the least bit was the gas cap..easy fix

yea.. instead of pillows, i am going to try battin or watever. hopefully i will get to that tonight. yea i thought about the foam thing, but what happens if my lever inside breaks again. it broke once and i had to rip some of the dynomat off. -TJ

there really isnt that much stuff inside the hatch itself to rattle around. if it rattles really bad crack it open and put some foam tape on anything that could be rattling. My personally im just going to live with it for another little while until i put the sub wall in then no sound will be going back there anyway
