i was at the off road shop with a buddy today(he has a cj5), and just for a laugh we ask him about liftin my truck. he said 1200 for a super lift with EVERYTHING to lift it with a super lift( 5 1/2 lift) . so he should me his 97 f-150 with a 6" lift and he said his mpg was cut in half...now i got to thinking what would that do to an explorer...what did it do to you alls. plus i asked him about the tranny and engine...will the 4.0 and pos tranny be beetin to death?

It will be harder on your drivetrain but regearing will help out your transmission big time:)

Gas mileage really all depends on your gear/tire combo. It is possible to lift your truck and get virtually the same mpgs. But its also possible to get a lot worse.

My buddy has a '99 F150 on 37's and he gets about 8-9mpg. If you're lookin to keep your X a nice little commuter.. I'd keep it close to the ground. :D

cool

well i got a 93 explorer 2 door xlt, i got a 5.5 inch suspesion lift. its a super lift probably the same thing u were looking at and i got 33" bfgoorich all terains on now. its nto to bad on gas not sure exact. i also got drive train modified

Im at 18 mpg on average w/ 5.0, 32"tires, 6"lift, 3.73LS.
I don't know how your 4.0 would handle running this combo but it works for me. Then again Im 2WD.

I've been driving my trail rig for the last few weeks and probably a month more until my daily driver returns from repairs. It sucks the gas.

Just filled up yesterday after work. Drove 145 miles and I'm down to 1/4 tank. And that's hwy miles!!!

Oh I should add my O/D is out. Still need to look at it.

If you regear, changing tire sizes wont' affect mileage "that much" until to start going really big (the tires get heavy)..

Lifting the truck doesn't really hurt the mileage much.. (a little, but not much, you aren't changing the frontal area)...

On our '92...
Stock.. 3.27 gear, 29" tires.. a4ld - 17-19mpg
now 4.10 gears, 32" tires a4ld (4" lift) - 16-17mpg

Jack, I'd say you're a bad example.;) 35's, 5.13's, and NO OVERDRIVE???
What are your RPM's when going 60 or 70 mph?

Oh, and to add to the thread info, I get ~17mpg with 37's, 4.56, and 7" lift.

Another bad egg, "Well this is why I hide my face!"

I run around 3000 rpms at 60mph a few times I have gotten up to 65 mph and rpms are around 3750 but I usually drive 55 -60 mph. I need to get to looking into the O/D sityuation.

PS: I think its my torque converter since I only hear three shifts and I get no rpm let down or kick up when letting off the gas and getting back on it.
