I happened to be looking over the install instructions for my locker today and I noticed that I didn't use the thrust washers. I thought it was feeling a little off lately and maybe I was just being paranoid, but now I know I'm going to at least go back in and put those in. What else will I probably have to replace because of the screw up? Center pin? the whole locker?

I've probably put at most 2000 miles on since the install.

have to wait till it is opened up to find out if anything is pooched,,
might be okay ,,

You may be alright, its hard to say until you open her up. I would'nt drive on it much more until you do though.

planning on fixing it this weekend at the latest. I'm gonna make sure I've got the gasket handy by then. Thanks for the help.

Cover gasket? Don't even bother, use straight RTV.

Yes i will not use gaskets. RTV will seal better. Put a bead around where the normal gasket would go and bold it up. Give a few to dry. At least i do

alrighty, will do, might even attempt to get it done tomorrow night then. Good thing I kept all the old parts.

Hopefully is doesn't look like this...
Has it slipped and spun up real fast or anything yet? If not, it's probably fine...

Not to my knowledge

The only thing I can think it may have done is unlock while I was driving and when I hit the gas maybe it had to lock back up and for a moment one tire was spinning at a different rate. And once I tried stomping on it a bit out of a parking lot and it locked in pretty violently, but it seemed more like anything that happened that time would have been to the axle shaft or something like that. Ok, set up the date, Friday night I'm working on this. So hopefully it'll be ok for a little while longer for a couple of short runs to the grocery store and gas station. Then out to my brother's.

It seems to ratchet fine, I've had a couple times where it seemed like it popped out and was sitting with the teeth on top of each other and then it just locked back in, but it's only happened twice that I recall. I sure hope I didn't screw it up horribly, because money has been extremely tight lately and I don't want to have to order another one. Wish me luck.

That's fairly common by nature of these lockers. As long as it doesn't completely unload, a quick "clank" as the teeth mesh will happen occasionally. It happen a lot more with my locker that didn't have the thrust washers installed. Of course it got worse and would unload completely, eventually could barely drive it.
My locker that's in there now and tighter than spec rarely ever does it.

Hopefully

I sure hope I didn't screw it up horribly. I'm going to be real easy on it for a while and then get those washers in there and hopefully all will be well after that. I think the reason I bypassed them was mostly because I had two sets of instructions one from a guy that did the install and the other that was from Aussie. And it got dark pretty fast as I was working on that. So I've learned a valuable lesson and hopefully I don't get bitten in the ass by making this mistake.

Got er done

Wasn't too bad, locker looked great. This time I used RTV and I had to use a little 85w140 conventional with my Royal Purple 75w140, but it's mostly RP. But reverse seems a little weird now. With the washers in it doesn't like to turn much in reverse, is that normal or is their something else wrong?

Mine was real tight for the first mile or two but it was fine soon after..
