On a 94 sport, I though it was 17 gallons. I filled up yesterday at 17.3 gallons.

Its not uncommon to be able to fill up more than the gas tank holds. The extra gas goes into the filler tube and other nooks and crannies. We have done that in our Ford Taurus and the X. There is also the slight chance that the pump at the gas station is not measuring a gallon properly.

Sport = 17.5 Gal
4 door = 19-19.5 Gal

I can't remember who posted it but this should work and help out a bit.

did you have to push it to the gas station? or were you just running on some fumes?...

i would never let it get that low

i actually accidently ran out of gas one day... i was doing 50 and it bogged and stalled... i pulled over started it, ut it into gear and it stalled. i looked at the guage and went oh crap...ran 1/2 mile home in the rain and got a gallon of our lawn mower gas..... ran fine...got it to the gas station and put in 5 bucks.... still made it to work 30 miles away on time....

I take it you lawn mower takes pure gas, not a gas and oil mix??

yup... it is a 5 horse 4 cycle B&S engine... it has its own oil supply and dipstick... we normally run 92 octane chevron techron through the lawn mower....

i wonder what race gas, A performance wire, a K&N and no muffler would do for a lawn mower! hehe.

I had a 2 seat gokart when I was 13 powered by a 5 horse B&S lawnmower engine. By tweaking the fuel system, valving, and throttle, we probably gained another 1-2 horses out of it. Its top speed was 40-45 mph.

great story gimp i've heard of that before, but for you to spot it, its a good job!

There is also an unrated capacity..Most tanks are rated at 10% below what they will actually hold. This is true on ALL tanks and bottles. The recommended or safe capacity is 17.5

my go kart was PHAT haha. it was really slow, (kinda like the explorer) but i had some knobby tires on it, and i un did the governer to make it faster, but then it would move when i started it and id have to jump in went it went haha. but i only had it like 5-6 months, it got old, because i really didnt have anywhere to ride it, and my neighborhood didnt like it. i got stopped by a cop one time, thats another story lol.

Damn....
did it have a wheelie bar too?

Anyone know what it would take to power a self-built golf cart? I'm thinking of building one, and i think i'll need a good muffler to make it quiet.
suggestions? Oh yeah...nothing too power-packed, otherwise i'll get thrown out of the course for burning the fairway. LOL!

Really? The pump usually reads between 22 and 24 gallons after I fill up, depending on how low I let the tank get.

For what years? My manual for my X says it's 17 period. No difference between 2, or 4 door.

I was on fumes. Was on my way home from work, on E, but refused to pay 20 cents more a gallon beacuse I work in a rich area.

The 4 dorrs have 21 gal. tanks, but they have a 3 or 4 gallon reserve supply so I have fit in 24 gallons once when it was really really low (like 40 miles after the light came on)
Normally i put in 22 gallons
