My sunroof on my 2002 Mountaineer broke and I am trying to find a replacement glass panel at a junkyard. I thought I found one but it was 2" smaller than mine.

This got me thinking. Is there a way to tell if it is a factory sunroof?

I am also having trouble with the pieces of broken glass on the tracks. I have not moved it much but when I do move anything it makes a horrible grinding noise becasue there are tiny pieces of glass on the tracks. Any ideas to clear this up?

Aftermarket sun/moonroofs have a metal trim ring the sits slightly above the sheetmetal aroung the opening. Factory sun/moonroofs edges are just about even with the glass.

Pop the top (tilt) and run shop vac. Wear safety glasses. Are you replacing glass yourself? You may want to see a glass guy for this.

I am replacing the glass unit. I am not going to do any glass work, just unbolting and rebolting the replacement (hopefully).

I just noticed it is a Sol-Aire Sunroof. I'm assuming it is aftermarket (especially since it is not flush) but I am having a hard time finding info on this brand.
