How did I get to be an "expert" on my car? Because it freekin' breaks all the time and I have to fix it. 
I, like a lot of us here, have learned a ton of info from this board as well. Plus I have an ex-Ford mechanic that lives across the street from me, so he helps out if I need it. It's nice being able to save on repair costs, plus between Torrie at the Ford Parts Network and people parting stuff out on this site, I can pick up parts pretty cheap as well.

An expert is a guy from out of town with a briefcase…
I started working on tractors and trucks when I was about 8, As I grew up we built many hot rods and drag cars. In those days we had no money so if we didn’t beg or borrow it, we usually didn’t get it. But it was amazing, we didn’t know we were poor, if I needed a set of slicks, I could borrow from a friend who had em. If he needed a trailer, he could use mine, etc. If it broke or needed modification, we did it ourselves. Ahhhh…. The good old days.

Im not an expert at all.
Heck I tried to replace the PCV valve and broke it. But then I went to Ford and looked at a new one and figured out that it was glued in. So I guess I learn from breakin stuff like everyone else

Am i the only mechanic here... bin one for 30 years used to do engine research for ford motor co....
