how difficult is the modulator valve to change?

Welcome to this forum! You could either get to it from the top if you take out the front seats or from the bottom if you remove the catalytic converter. It's a good idea to wire brush out the bore. Be careful not to lose the pin. You could use petroleum jelly to hold the pin in place.
