On my X, 1996, I was wondering how I get wires into the doors. I was looking at the hard plastic hinge the go through now and I looks to me that would be VERY difficult. Also the wires go in there through individual holes. Are there metal connectors in there or do the wires just run seperately. I'd rather not drill new holes, but that really seems to be my only option.

I just have 2 extra wires going into my driver door, but it was very easy. On the door side, they just come out from between the trim panel and the metal door shell. Then they go behind the dash to the fuse panel. I left enough slack for the door to open fully, and made sure they don't bind on anything when the door is closed. You can also go in from the bottom of the door, so you can use the kick panel and door sills to hide them until the crossing. Good luck!

i just removed the ends of the rubber and ran the wire through with all the others.

I don't think the first gen. Explorer we had used the hard plastic hinges to get the wires into the doors. I think it had the traditional "accordian" type soft plastic thing. I think I may just drill a hole in the plastic hinge.

oh yeah. you're right. :)

but you should use wire loom or something to cover the wires.

I was going to drill a larger hole and see if I can use a small piece of wire loom like one of the accordian rubber things.

When I do it at work I take the plug apart, find a spot on both sides that line up and have no wires going through a drill a hole on each side and run my wires through that. It is a pain in the butt , but it can be done. It normally takes me about a hour to do.
