This is a fairly simple question

Rear- I went and looked under the X again. It looks like the main bar runs from one side to the other, then the main bar connects to a second bar that runs to the frame. Do I disconnect the bolt that connects the two bars, or disconnect where the second bar attaches to the frame? When I disconnect it, do I have to tie anything up, or is everything set as soon as I unhook one of the bolts?

Front- Kinda the same deal. One main bar, connects to a second bar that connects to a main support bar of the suspension (don't know what it is called). What do I disconnect? The front looks a little different. Do I have to unbolt 2 bolts on each side or just the one?

Can't tell you much about the rear, I just pulled the whole darn thing off. But the front you just put a wrench on one side, and ratchet on the other and twist that sucker off. Be very careful about the bar itself. It has to stay RIGHT where it is, if it slips, it will bind with steering components.

Michigander,
For the rear you remove the bolts from the bottom link, swing the link up even with the sway bar and bunje cord them to the frame. On the front the bolts for the links are all the way through the links and have to be pulled all the way out. It's a big pain in the a$$, but you get alot more articulation with the sway bars disconnected. I just ordered some quick disconnects from Warrior Products, for the fronts because the JKS quick disconnects really aren't very quick and I don't like them. Hopefully the Warrior Products will be better.Hope this helps.

Dead Link Removed

thanks for the help, but I can't afford $200 right now. That is why I figured I could just un-bolt them everytime. So on both the front and rear I have to unbolt the joint that links the 2 bars right? Or do I have to take the small bar on the front all the way off?

On the front, there is a long bolt that links the end of the sway bar to the lower control arm on each side. The bolt is about 8" long (actually it is metric). It slides through the black plastic, vertical cover. Hold the top of the bolt (by the sway bar end) with a socket and remove the nut from the other end (from the bottom of the lower control arm). I have always removed both, but have thought about trying just one. The more I think about it, the more I think it will work to just remove one end. That will still allow both front tires to move independantly of each other and have the added benefit of keeping your sway bar centered between your upper and lower control arms, out of the way.

I have never removed the rear for trail riding but probably will the next time I go out. I think that since it is linked to the frame, both sides should probably be disconnected.

ahhhh

thank you Robert... that was exactly what I was wondering about the front. Thanks!
