I have tried to figure it out forever but cant find out how to disconnect the transmission for a rear wheel drive. The bolts on the bell housing to the motor are what stops me. I cant find out how to get the very top bots, I can barly touch them! And thats with my arm wraped around the trans. The Haynes says just to disconnect the thing, lol big help. So does anyone know how to get them?

did you try from inside the engine compartment, at the back of the engine.

The bolts face the rear, everyone has asked me that question in person, Are not all rear wheel drive trans like this? On I took off a chevy was, but the bell houseing would disconnect

I got mine from the engine compartment, leaned over the engine using an open end. They are not fun.

i just went out and looked at mine, i can get right to the bolts that way. but i have a bl which gives me a little more room. id try and break them loose with a wrench that way and then twist them out with your hands. they usually turn pretty easy once there broke loose. sorry if thats not the answer ur looking for but i dont know any way else.

Have you removed

The transmission support member? Everything will tilt down and there is easy access. Then I use a long extension(s), about 3 feet to get to the bolts. Quite easy then. One caveat. Use a good 6 point socket. This is a one shot deal. A 12 point may round off the head. I used an impact socket to make sure it wouldn't crack. Used a couple of 3/8 extensions in series and a pipe extension on my socket wrench. I can take quite a force. I sheared one of my extensions, though it was a cheap one.

if it tilts down, does that not damge any parts?

Dropping it down six inches

doesn't damage anything. You will need to support the transmission. Manuals say to support the back of the engine if you are going to leave it out a long time.
