How do I go about hooking a switch for my amp?

Hey guys, I have an amp powering my 10" sub and sometimes the bass doesn't sound good to some music and so I am kind of getting sick of going through the little menu thingy to turn the bass down. A friend of mine had someone put a switch in his explorer, but he didn't know how to do it. Can someone explain how to do it? I couldn't run the power wire to it cause its basically a cable (8 or 6-guage wiring). Thanks

You can go two ways.

The first is the cheapest, and I believe it's just buying a toggle switch at Radio Shack not for the power wire, but for the remote line lead (usually the small blue wire to the amp).

The second, more expensive, more elegant way is to go to your authorized Alpine dealer and ask about ordering a bass control knob, I think for less that 50 bucks. It basically goes in right before your dedicated sub amp RCA ins, and it has a knob to lower the sound.

The best thing you can do is put in an equilizer. I'm in the process of installing one now. I just picked up the final set of speakers for the rear doors, now I am ready to wire my amps. I've already installed my equilizer with built-in subwoofer filters, and have the amp connected for the subs. What a difference that made!

On a side note, I did some searching for speakers today, and found out that $45 speakers sound just as good, if not better than $145 speakers! I just picked up two pairs of Coustic 6x8's for $45 a pair. I installed one set in the front already and was thinking of getting some more expensive ones for the front and moving the Coustics to the rear.

Guess what, the more expensive ones didn't sound any better than what I already have. Dead Link Removed

I let y'all know what it's like once all the amps and speakers are installed and working.

BTW the drivers door harness is a real ***** to run wires through! Dead Link Removed

So, all I do is run the remote lead to the switch, from the switch to the head unit, and then a ground for the light?? Thats pretty easy, thanks.

Normally the remote line lead goes directly from the head unit to the amp. Just put the switch in between there. Make sure you get the right switch for the job!
