Looking for help in how to remove the OME shift knob ( and dust boot ) on a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT. 5 speed. Please feel free to email me personally if you so choose. Thank you for any helpful hints.

The knob, just pull it straigh off. Making sure you won't hit yourself onto your face. The boot is held by pushing the lower part inward toward the floor and the plastic part is held by 4 little phlip screws.

it's OEM (Origional equipment manufacturer) not OME. I fixed it for you though.

Good catch, ExplorerDMB. I figured it was OEM and hopping he won't knock his teeth off trying to remove the shift knob. lol

shift knob removal

Well, now that we have corrected my typo ( OEM from OME ) does anyone know HOW to get the shifter knob off a 2005 Ford Ranger ?.... Iv been advised to just " pull it straight off " but I can tell you first hand that isnt doing it.

Do as you are being told and try not hitting yourself onto your face....

If you can't get it off with brute force, try heating it first with a hot air gun or hair dryer.

easy

i just turned my shiftknob with hella force to the left and it got loose the inside of my explorer was hella hot so that helped

On my '04 5 speed,I had to cut off the rubber covering. Then useing a dremmil cut off wheel cut the white plastic knob that is under the rubber shift knob. Then I used a pair of channelocks and broke the white knob.Under that is a steel knob, which I used a cutoff wheel to split at the bottom about 1 inch.I then was able to use a 5/8" open end wrench under the steel knob and hit it with a hammer. It came off ,and new knob was on in 3 minutes.

Yea it is just glued on hella good like they said heat it up with a hot air gun and get something under it and just knock the hell out of it....Keep your face clear from getting drilled in the face with it tho.... cause i personally would rather not pull it off towards me watched a buddy get a bloody nose and black eye from that

I just changed my shift knob out today. after you remove the outer plastic, there should be a bunch of white plastic underneath of that. break as much of that off as you can. there should be a metal piece, it may look like and Iron Cross. if you can get a propane torch, heat it up until the plastic comes out of the small hole on the top. then attach vise grips, and it should come off with very little effort.
