This may sound really stupid, but I can't figure out how to get the stock exhaust system off of the rubber hangers. Can anyone help me out? There is probably some simple way to do it that I just overlooked. Thanks.

You've probably already though of this one but when I put my cat back on, I tried using liquid wrench on them with a lot of pushing and pulling with no success so I broke out the the old cutoff wheel and cut the ends off the exhaust side hangars.

It wont be any help of course if you plan on putting your stock exhaust back on. Also, use the non-flammable liquid wrench if you think you may be doing some cutting.

Jim,

I replaced my exhaust last September, I had no trouble getting the muffler off of its hanger, but the tail pipe wuoldn't come out without greasing it up good with WD-40. The only problem for me was that I couldn't get the muffler and tailpipe out while it was all together, and couldn't separate the muffler from the tail pipe. I ended up going and buying a hack saw(I am at school and do not have access to all of my tools) and cutting the tail pipe to get it out. Anyway, my suggestion is to use liquid wrench or WD-40 and some elbow grease. It will come out, just needs some persuasion.

Thanks for the info guys! The hangers have been a big pain in the ass so far, so I might just cut them off like Harry suggested. If anyone has any easier ways, please fill me in. Thanks.

I upgraded my cat-back with a Flowmaster DeltaForce II and when I took my stock system off I removed the right rear wheel and the link from the stabilizer bar. This enabled me to rotate the exhaust and remove it from the hangers. I could then remove the whole deal through the wheel well. It came out pretty easy.

Hope this helps,
FM

Here is another tip you might try. Instead of using oil or penetrating lube on the rubber part of the hanger, try rubbing alcohol. I know it may sound crazy, but when you put alcohol on rubber, it makes it slicker than snot. The only drawback is that it will only last for maybe 20 - 30 seconds. After it evaporates, it will not be slick anymore. Another nice thing about alcohol is that it will not cause the rubber to dry out over time like oil based items will.
