how does this sound for a first system?

I got 4 rockford fosgate speakers and a panasonic head unit already in the X....i got two 12" kicker comp vrs on the way and im just deciding on the amp. I am almost decided on the US Acoustics-USA 2300 that pushes out 300x2 watts of rms power at 4-ohms. How does this sound for a first system?

Not too bad. Hopefully you ordered the 4ohm DVC model Comp VR's. You can wire each sub in parallel to it's own channel @ 2ohms and get 400 x 2 @ 2ohms.

With the 4ohm DVC's you could also wire both subs in series/parallel and bridge the amp to get 600 x 1 @ 4ohms mono/bridged (breaks down to apx 300 watts per sub). But you would be better off with the 400 x 2 @ 2ohms rating.

If you ordered the 2ohm DVC model, then you're can only safely wire into the 300 x 2 @ 4ohms rating.
