so I have a 96 ohv w/ auto transmission. when it shifts 1-2 its farly rough and makes a slight bump noise, 2-3 is a lot less noise and smoother and 3-4 is perfect with no noise and smooth as glass. the downshifting seems good exept for 2-1 when its perhaps the worst.. rough and noise

Now the transmission has been rebuilt recently and is under warrenty, I just bought this rig 1 week ago so my question to all is this, are explorers farly rough when it comes to shifting, ie is this normal?

thanks in advance and Ive searched through about 14 pages of the transmission forum and genral serch with no aval.

Mine bumps too but the worst is what I believe to be the 3-2 downshift, not the 2-1 downshift. There is thumps real bad to the point that its obviously slowing the rear wheels down way too quickly b/c the ABS will trip in the pedal from time to time. Its been like this for as long as I can remember and I have 168k miles.

I am on my 8th but I've had this one for 90k miles already and have towed w/ it and everything. I had a run of bad ones. I don't recall of the early ones bumped. But this one does. Its been dependable though so I can't argue w/ a little bumping. :)

2000 ford ex ohv and mine shifts fine but sometimes going up small and i mean small inclines it will hunt for the right gear but it is really infrequent

heres one for you guys... if i dont go from park to "2" then back to "D" it will slip a lot. if i do this, it runs pretty smooth.

it used to do this a lot more then i got the trannie flushed. it seemed to help a lot but the shop that did it didnt change the filter. would changing the filter fix the problems of slipping or "bumping"?

Tranny

You're better off posting this on the tranny and transfer case forum, there are some petty sharp guys there.
