Hello all!

I think i may be in need of a new steering stabilizer shock. My frontend does a lot of shimming. The tires are good and properly inflated (31's), and my front end components are good for the most part. I really begins to shimmy at around 65-70 mph. I may need some new shocks too. If I were to pickup the yellow monroe cheaper ones, how long would they last. I do not tow, but carry heavy tools/jack misc groceries etc from time to time. Other than that no heavy duty loads. Could I get a good year out of them. I have been eyeing the sensatracs, how good are they? The truck is sort of rodeo bouncy too, thats why I figure shocks too. I do tend to get some swaying within the frontend too, at hwy speeds. Some of these trucks have a damper shock on the rear too, are they explorers with both? Thanks in advance!

Best Regards:salute:

Is this for your '93 or '97? Your '97 doesn't have a steering stabilizer.

If for your '93 this should be posted in the Stock 1991-1994 section.

The steering dampener is not designed to stop shimmy - nor will it. You have a problem in your front end somewhere.

Check tire balance, make sure the wheels are evenly mounted on the hubs, check upper and lower ball joints. I'm pretty one of these is your problem.

I had the same problem with my old truck and it turned out to be my lower ball joint on the drivers side.

make sure you get the alignment checked and after doing the work. it's not that bad on those older ones

good luck

the front end componets are fairly cheap for these trucks, especially the ball joints.

my 97 has one on the rear axle. And my 93 has one I believe on the front axle. The one on my 97 is rusted flaked toast!
