How hard is it to "fix" your X?

Hola.

My question is:

How hard is it to repair you explorer your self, like easy things like breaks aso.

The car I hade b4 my X was a Volvo S40 Turbo 2000 and I couldent even change breaks w/o leving it to the dealer. (It was made so you coulden't do anything ur self)

So what can I fix my self???

On my explorer i've done the front brakes, replaced the radiator, changed the water pump, spark plugs and wires, thermostat and housing. I personally think it's pretty easy, there's a decent amount of room to work.

With the right tools and knowledge you could completely strip it down to the bare chassis if you want to. Get hold of either the cdrom or haynes/chiltons manual. You'll be able to do any job you wish then.

Explorers are definatly one of the easiest vehicles to work on!

Yes I just ordered a Workshop book with all thinkeble repairs..so i hope I understand it all.

Things I got planed for my X:

It must be easy

cause I'm doing it all the time. I'm trying to think of something on an Explorer I haven't had to fix. I buy them high mileage(>100K) late model so I get to see a lot of problems that people who buy them new don't encounter. Still love them!

Just remember , when in doubt , don't.
But also don't be overly timid.
Some times it is not worth the headach , some times it is very rewarding. Just take your time go slowly , pay attention to what you are doing and depend on the fine people here to help guide you along.

A few pieces of advice for servicing your explorer.

1.Have good tools! Nothing will piss you off more than the wrong tool or a broken or cheap tool
2.Be happy while you're working and think about how much better it will be when you're finished with it.. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps you from giving up on a job.
3.Take frequent (but short) breaks. Sometimes it's nice to take a rest and then come out and attack your problem with a different perspective.
