I wanted a separate thread for this question.. I don't know how many people are following the other one.. What do y'all think is too hot? at what temp would shut your engine down? 220? 230? 240?

anything over 210 im shutn her down,or kicking all the back up fans on!!o but i have my motor set to run at 180

Actual water temp of 220 I start to watch it
sustained 230 I'd be pulled over.. but not off.. Off will just make it get hotter (heat soak)
If it keeps going up, something is really wrong.. and I'll shut it down because something is wrong, not just because of the temp

btw.. we run a 16psi cap to help increase the boiling point. its roughly 3 degrees per psi.. so with a 16psi cap, the boiling point is 250F.. and thats not even counting the antifreeze.

Once my gauge hits red i shut her down. thats all i know

220 bothers me but 230-240 crank the heater and let her rest.

High temperature is bad for the transmission as well as the engine.

What is too hot for the a4ld? I added a temp gauge the other day with the sending unit in the pan. Around town/highway a/c on it will stay around 140-160. Last weekend I took it up a long, very steep dirt road in 2hi. The temp climbed up to 220-230. I assume that is way too hot??

My 92 has never been past halfway through the N on "NORMAL" on the gauge (:

(hottest its been so far outside is about 96, with my windows up, AC blowing ice cold air)

# 8 in my list of useful threads has transmission temperature charts. Here's one chart for example:

according to my gauge and assuming all sploders would be similar... between the R and the M your at 230, O and M your 200-210
