A few years ago, Explorer Express said they didn't recommend lowering an X any further than 1 7/8", and that's what their lowering kit did. Then, a little while ago, they started recommending lowering no more than 1 3/8", and that's what their current kit does. All I can find is 1" and 2" lowering block, nothing in between.

Anyone have any experience or advice on this? I want a lower ride, but I'm not looking for any major negative effects.

talk to a few people with lowered explorers. Bill Kemp has his lowered, and he said the handling is great.
some people have theirs slammed, but i doubt you want to scrape.

this one looks cool, and it's not too low

it's on the explorer underground website.
they have a couple nice ones on there.

Leenjen,

Do you happen to know where he got that little airdam under the front bumper? I think that would look a lot better than mine

it looks like that airdam is the factory Ford airdam for 95-97s with fog lights.

My 2 cents is go up not down. Not to offend anyone as I have seen lowered x's that are sharp, but trucks are meant to go up and cars lowered. LOL:bounce:

1st: There is no rule (written or un-written) that sais that truck go up, and cars go down. The suspension is one of the biggest areas of "personal interest" on vehicle. It is totaly up to the owner as to which way they want ot go...or if to go at all.

2nd: I've got my '98 X lowered 3" right now and am in the process of setting it down another 2 or so inches. I am taking pics of everything that I am doing and will be doing a "how to" write up on it as soon as it is done. With it sitting a 3" it handles great and the only problem that I have (other than neg. camber b/c I haven't gotten it aligned yet, waiting till it's done) is that I'm running stock wheels right now and they tend to rub the inner fender on large bumps and extreme weight shifts. Also the axle hits the frame ocasionally on large bumps...all this will be changed when it's done. To give you an idea of the handling improvements I am able to comfortably take most corners at 15-20 mph faster now, that will also be improved with the new wheel/tires and some sway bars.

3rd: I like this sudden fluxuation of people wanting to bring their X down more that Explorer X's "kit."

Be looking for my write up :D

I agree with godfather. It's all a matter of personal opinion. If you wanna go offroading...lift it. If you never go off road but desire better/safer handling or just a street look then go ahead and lower it. I wanna lower mine because I never take it offroad, most of my driving is highway.

Well i have a 3/3 drop on my 91... and plan on going a bit more we will set when I get the dubs on....
