...are available for subs in the back of a 95' explorer sport. I am not talking about the whole back, I just want to know how many subs I can fit directly behind the back seats. I am in the market for an explorer and I am wondering if I could fit three 15's (2 CF each) angled like this...
3subbox.JPG
, if not I will go with three 12's (1 CF each). Thx in advance!

Pretty sure you could go either way, just depends on how high you want the box to come up. At 2 Cf per sub and 3 subs, the 15s are gonna come up pretty high. BIG box.
I suggest teh 12s

Just a thought
Chris

I agree with what rokke17 said, get the 12's. Properly set up, you won't be disappointed.

I don't want the box taller than the back seat.

if you use 3 10" subs, you can build a box that fits under the stock cargo cover.
if you dont have a stock cargo cover, you could always get one to hide the eye candy from would be thieves.

The cargo cover can cover a box >18"

Any setup I get will be powered by Elemental Designs Nine.1. I don't really want three 12's, I want three 15's, but if they won't fit I think I will settle for two 15's. If I get three 15's they will be e15k's, if the three won't fit I will get 2 15 A's when they come out.

ahhhhhhhh i love the bass heads-i am running 3 12's with the same style box pictured above, they barely fit in the back, and are still covered by my cargo cover, 3 15's might be a lil' extreme but it's possible-it will probably have to be something custom though......

better yet, why not build a box that takes the place of the rear seats... build it such that there is a slight rake to the rear of the vehicle and cover it with some heavy as hell plexiglass and use swapable porting... if i had the time and money!

I need some room in the vehicle. I want to keep the back seats. ;)
I want it to look nice and still have three subs, I don't like the way they look when facing up.
White96x, how many CF per sub?

I'm not sure how you will fit 3 15"s in the sport version... but in my xlt, I've got 1 15" in a 7.2 cu ft box 20" tall, 40" wide and 18" deep

Why not just build an entire floor of sub box and have them fire up. Carpet it nicely and put some grills on the subs, you could make amp/cap/wiring look *****in! Then again that is a little extreme, and I am not sure that 3 15"s would need enough ft³ to take the depth of the subs+a bit as the height and cover the floor. Why must you have 15s? Are you going to be doing SPL competitions? I mean, 15's are loud and all, but to be honest, 12's are gonna sound a helluva lot better, take less space, and less drain on your electrical system, with the trade off of some volume of course. Either way you look at it, no matter what you do you're gonna damage your hearing pretty good. I would do what everyone else says and go with 12's.

I agree with everything above except "12's are gonna sound a helluva lot better"

Well, I'm talking frequency response, genral response, SQ in general. I didn't say louder.... but better. 12"s are more SQ, 15"s are more SPL.

I disagree with this even more.

almost ALL of the world champions in sound Quality of 2002, in MECA, USACI (spelling?), dB Drag, IASCA used 15"s

15" simply are easier at reproducing lower freqs, which contrdicts what you said above.

Now it depends on what you consider sound quality. In truth 15"s are better for sound by all means. (when comparing the 12" and 15" of the SAME model and brand.)

He's absolutely right. Look at the frequency responses, and you will see that a 15" can produce lower frequencies than a 12", but usually they both have the same top-end frequency limit... Granted, the lower frequencies may be inaudible to humans, but this fact translates into: 15s can produce lower frequencies much easier than 12s.

I'm not talking low eng bass. Of course they hit low. I'm talking about general response. A 15" is a good thump sub. For tight musical bass, anything with rapid frequency changes, over a broad range, a 12" would knock a 15" out of the water. A 15" just has more mas to move and is in general more sloppy because of the size it has and the mass it has to move. I'm not saying that anything greater than a 12" is gonna sound like poop, hell just listen to a JL 13 W7, but in general, 12"s produce more accurate sound than 15"s, the expection being hitting as low.

You're still wrong, I feel like posting this on an audio forum just for laughs. In fact, i'm going to.

Funny thing, the total diameter of the 13W7 is 14", and most 15" subs have a half inch on both sides for mounting, unlike the W7. So, the 13W7 is basically a 15".

Just food for thought. Also, my 15" brahma has tighter bass than my 12" brahma.

Also a sub should NOT be able to play above 80Hz, thats why they created Midbass, normally 8" to 6" they play 80Hz to 500Hz.

From there you have midrange that play 500Hz up to 5-7Khz

Then Tweets to get the rest.
