How many quarts on a 5R55E Filter change....

All,
scoured the threads and am looking for how many quarts to needed to top off of a Filter change in the tranny indicated in the subject line?

Manual says 10.3 qts capacity but as I understand not all will come out, some will remain in lines, case, cooler etc.... I have 6 qts in the bag now, will that be enough?

And if it is extra....Can I put Merc-V in the transfer case?

You'll get about 4 quarts out, so 6 quarts should be more than enough for the trans and t-case. And yes, you can use that fluid in the t-case.

Jon nailed it. needed almost 4 to top off after filter and gasket change, messy as hell and the heat shield gave me fits.

The transfer case fluid came out black, and it needed about 2 quarts. Made a bigger mess with the T-case job and that wonky pump thing than I did with the tranny pan.
