How many people have had their spare tire stollen.

I ask because on Friday evening my wife noticed that the cable holding my spare tire was hanging and there was no tire to be found. I drive a 00 EB

What is this world comming too when your spare tire is stollen off your truck while in a family members driveway.

Well I found a new spare for the price of $130 used. It's currently sitting in the back until the spare tire locks arrive. I bought 2 winchlock brand locks for $45 including shipping. Hopefully this will stop the @$$ who tries to steal it next time.

TAt least this time they didn't cut the cable. This is now my second time losing a tire. The first was on my wifes 98 sport, while sitting in a hospital ER parking lot. That time they cut the cable so I had to buy a new mechanism for holding the tire.

Ford needs to do something about how easy it is to steal the spare. Or maybe they like it this way so people buy more tires.

Thanks for bearing with my ranting.

Most times its the spare tire wire rusting out and breaking.. I had mine snap on me in the driveway a few times. Since I'm sitting on 33s now, the spare tire winch will be useless when I get a fullsize spare. You can also wrap a spare tire lock around the frame & the tire.

well neither time for me was rust. When they cut the cable you could see the marks from the bost cutters. and on mine, you can see the scrape markes of the rim being dragged out from under it.

mine was stolen from my ranger, and it fell off my explorer while off roading.
atleast they didnt steal any of your nice rims!

yeah my cable snapped after i hit a ditch,

never had a spare stolen yet,

even when i used to carry 2 around in the back of my pickup in plain view!

Isn't that the price of a new one with steel wheels? What kind did you get used?

My spare tire is missing, but damned if I know where it went. Just looked under there one day and it wasn't there.

I have a new tire/wheel to put there, just need to get the two mounted, then find a new spare tire mount. Anybody have any recommendations?

mine dissapeared also........

a friend's mom had a wheel from her car taken. It was a buick or something sitting in their driveway. When they came out the next day it was on a cheap jack and no rear passenger wheel. Guess somebody in the neighborhood got a flat they couldn't afford to fix........

I wonder if they have a lot of jacks to spare, how would they get it on their other vehicle? That would be a flawed theft plan

It was $60 for the rim and $60 for the tire Plus tax. I was getting quotes of almost $100 for rims and $120 for tires for new. I havent looked at the tire much but it's a Futura I think. The tire size is 255/70 R16.

Maybe I could have found it cheaper if I kept looking, but I just wanted a new spare before I would need to use it.

From the sound of it more people just loose their tires than get stolen. That makes me even more upset. I must just have bad luck.

Maybe I should use my electrical skills and rig up a spare tire alarm.

or every time you park it somewhere you could set up some electric fence around it
:)

I once had a dream that I walked outside and my truck was sitting on cinder blocks and had stolen all 4 of my tires. It was funny cause I woke up and was really pissed off for a couple minutes before I realized it was a dream, hehe.

I'm surprised no one has ever stolen my spare, I had it tied onto the top with nothing more than a rachet tie down for about 2 months and no one touched it. I guess they don't feel like going through all the trouble of getting a 33 off the top of the roof.

If you were that into preventing the theft, you could always have a rear tire carrier built and lock it up. Course that'd be pretty expensive, but hey, it'd look cool :D

My spare is still there, but I wish someone would steal it. It's one of those Firestone Wilderness ATX tires that was recalled. I only keep it on there for emergencies, I don't use it in the tire rotation process.

I have a spare 16" wheel and tire with zero miles on it if anyone needs it :)

50.00 plus the 25.00 to ship it :) It was only under the truck for 5k miles

I had a Firestone spare before, and when they had the recall, even though I had all my other tires changed before the recall, I still got my spare changed out too for free. I think that recall is over, but as long as it didn't say that it was for temporary use only, then it was covered under the recall.

just spray some salt-water on your spare tire cable and hope if falls off! :exp:

Tire Theft Prevention

A guy I used to work with said that he heard a noise outside his second floor apartment, walked out on the balcony and saw two guys jacking up his muscle car (this was in the late 60's). He walked back inside, picked up his deer rifle and placed two rounds in the dirt behind the car.

He claimed he got two nice hydraulic jacks for free.

In the new Explorers/Mountys the winch for the tire is accessed from inside the truck. I need to get a bicycle lock for my spare since it has a matching wheel...

It sucks they stole the tire, but they did have the decency to leave it on the jack so the spare/polio tire could be easily mounted....lol
