I'm trying to convince my dad to buy an x-cal 2, but he wants to know how much it'll improve the gas mileage. My mom's explorer is a 2003 with the 4.0 SOHC. I let him drive mine with the stock tune, then the performance tune, and that helped, but he really doesn't care about the performance, just the mileage. So post up your mileage gains.

well i believe i've heard people claim 1-3 mpg. which is pretty significant, esp. if you combine with other mods. i just got my xcal and havent had a chance to get mpg's but i really cant keep the petal off the floor either...;)

I have an XC2 but mileage has never been my concern. I tested some mileage tunes and didn't really like them. While I did get some mileage gains on a long road trip across the prairies, I felt I lost passing power which sort of scared me at times. I road trip now with my 91 Performance tune.

If you dad isn't concerned about performance gains, I wouldn't even bother, but that's just me. Aldive will have more to add I'm sure.

I"m the same as you I drive around all the time on my performance tune, there just isn't much point in trying to hard for gas mileage with my v8. But he feels differently.

i have an 03 ranger and i have gained about 1-2mpg over stock with 89 performance tune
