"No keys" is a little problem. That car has PATS, or Passive Anti-Theft System. It has an RF ID chip in the key that allows the car to start.

You can get a replacement key from the Dealer. You can spend in upwards of $80-$100 for the key.

It IS a Limited, and there a LOT of reusable parts in that Explorer.

I wouldn't spend more than $600-800 for it.

If they ask for more

It was provably totaled by the insurance company and the buy back is about $300. If a junk yard parts it out half efficiently they might see 1000 in profit.

Nice prospect but does it still have a title?

It may be a nice donor vehicle to fix yours up with though. In that case offering the yard $500 may be a deal that both you and the wrecker yard benefit from.

For $500 I would let it sit in my drive for a week while I strip off every thing that I want then sell it for scrap.

The entire body is shot except for the hatch and the grill. If you need a headliner and seats then okay. Everything else is highly used like the engine and trans and theres no telling about how it was treated. If you want the 5.0 to rebuild while you drive yours then cool.

If that thing is still drivable and is going to be your daily driver then NO! Make a jeep out of it or something.

Beyond the body, everything is reusable. The only wrecked 5.0's I can find are rollovers... I could make a little more back if I could find a side or rear impact. I have friends in my local dealer ship, I can get one key for $75 or 2 for $120. Don't they have to make 2 keys at a time if they don't have one to go off of?

Its thru an insurance salvage auction. Its a parts only non rebuildable title. I just want it for the driveline/interior. My truck was actually totaled by insurance. My uncle bought it and fixed it. He runs a body shop and does this on the side. By the time his vehicles get through state inspection and get a new paint job they are nicer than most used vehicles around.
