... installing 4 new bilstein shocks. I have seen the posts on how to install them, but I don't have a garage or the time to play around with my X like that.

How much have you guys/gals paid for having shocks installed in your X?

My parents ex just got this done. The shocks were about $80 a piece plus about another $80 for install.

The front shocks are a breeze to install... well accessible and well thought out, only 3 nuts to remove. Way to go Ford....

The rear are a diffrent story... They were invented by this drunk suicidal dude that walked into the Ford design room with a loaded shotgun and started shooting up the engineers that were working on the Explorer truck chassis... He then drew something on a piece of paper, and shot himself soon after, leaving the piece of paper with the truck blueprints. That piece of paper ended up on the production line by accident, and they used it to figure out where and how to install the rear shocks. Later on the police investigators informed Ford that the piece of paper in question was in fact a suicide note written in Chinese, and not an actual diagram. :D

I changed my rear shocks lately with a bunch of Rancho 9000's... great shocks, but that rear end fought me long... very long. By the time I was done, each one of my knuckles was bleeding, and my arms felt like they weighted a ton from trying to unscrew the upper bolts (there's barely enough room for a ratchet in between the floor and upper shock bracket up there, not to mention fitting an actual hand in there... and the bolts/nuts were pretty rusted, and barely visible). Case in point; If you can, do the front yourself... and delegate the rear to someone else (like a garage). Good luck.

I think you try to hard, cause I just did them myself. It took me like a hour to do. I only had to remove the box thing next to the gas tank. I was even doing this on a gravel road with chicken lurking around me dropping poo bombs.

Ah yup, its great to have a bodylift :D
