I decided to test the ball joints and tie rod ends to see if they needed to be replaced. They are ok. I noticed that there was quite a bit of play in the rotation of the wheel. The wheel rotates 5 or more degrees. The rear axle is a limited slip. The play in rotation is almost 0.
I replaced the fluid in the front axle months ago. I used one quart of the required oil but I ran out before it was full. I used a heavier oil to top it off. Would the heavier oil cause wear? I don’t think it would. It should protect more. The axel housing is not getting all that warm after driving a few miles.
I was just wondering if there is supposed to be a lot of play in the front axle?
