I have a couple hundred miles on my new reman transmission. It's been a big relief finally getting rid of the old slipping and growling 5R55W. The new one seems to be doing fine, shifts are solid and it holds power great. I have noticed that it slightly shudders here and there between shifts, and I've noticed the new torque converter is kind of noisy. It's nothing like the shot converter was, that thing rattled bad and couldn't really lock up anymore. The new one makes audible noise but the issue is I'm not sure if it's normal or not..? It could be a coincidence or be some other noise, but with the windows down after a cold start I swear I can here a loud click in between shifts that I've never heard before, it goes away once warm.

Can anyone remember how their Ex drove when new? If the torque converter should be dead silent and shifts never shuddered in the slightest, then something's not up to snuff with my new tranny. I'm not sure if I'm being overly paranoid. It has a 3 year unlimited mile warranty but I'd rather be sure that something's wrong before going back to the shop. Maybe there's a PCM flash that I need or something? It's an '02 4.6L.

man,
it could be any number of things. could be that maybe the bands might not be adjusted right in the tranny. i believe there is an intermediate and overdrive band that if not adjusted right could possibly cause the problem. could be an excessively loud solenoid too. also what you might be hearing might be a bad ujoint but that is very unlikely. the shuddering in between shifts is what has me bewildered. my son's ranger with a 5r55e had a problem that when it shifted from 2nd to 3rd it would shudder a bit. turns out the intermediate band was way out of adjustment. you have to be careful when adjusting them so read up if you decide to do it. there is a write up on here that describes step by step what you need to do. one of the 5r series trannys i believe does not have band adjusters i thought but i cannot remember which one it is. just my 2 cents. hope this helps.
