Ok, I just got a JL audio stealthbox w/ a JL 10" and I already had a q-logic box w/ an MTX thunder 6000 sub, and just bought a new MTX RT2200x amp. The rating for the amp is 100x2 @4 ohm, 200x2 @ 2 ohm, and 400x1 @ 4 ohm. I don;t see a spec for a mono setup with 2 ohms. But I was tihnking maybe putting the JL sub and box behind the back panel (good idea, huh?. haha) and then get a good grille to coverit up so no one can see it. And then, since no boday wanted to buy the my other box and sub, I could put it in the rear cargo area and hook it up to the amp. The subs are both 4 ohms a piece. Should/could I go with a 2 ohm setup? And should I go with a mono or stereo set up?? How should I set up everything?? Thanks

Hey Rock-

You can try it, but I don't think it will work very well. All the stealthboxes are made to fit the right side cubby hole, so I don't know if it will fit in the left one. Secondly, you don't really want to mix and match different subs too much, because they all play a little differently. so there's a chance that the subs may affect each other's sound quality with different sound waves affecting each other, unlike two similar speakers that can play together in unison. If one of them just happened to play a tiny bit louder than the other, it wouldn't sound too great. It really depends though, I mean, it could work, that's just the theory of not mixing subs.

You won't be able to wire the two subs up in a briged way to pull more power from the amp, because the load will be too low (as it is for most amps). The best you can do is to wire each sub up on its own channel, in which case each sub will get 100 watts a piece. Try it out, and see if you like it, because the other option was just to keep the MTX sub which can handle 400 watts RMS, and just keep that one hooked up bridged and dump the JL with only 125 watts RMS that can't be bridged or it will be overpowered.

Hey, I wasn't talking about puting a stealthbox in the left side, I was saying that I had another box that I could keep it in the rear cargo area, and also have the stealthbox behind the right panel. I guess I won't do it now though.

I have had so many people tell me to dump the MTX I have because the JL is so much better. But I think that I am gonna keep the MTX in there because it does handle a whole lot more power than the JL. Plus I have heard that the MTX's are really good subs, so....

Hey JTang, I would like to thank you for all your help, and I know if I have any other questions, you will probably answer them for me too. You are always helpin people on this board, I don't know why you aren't the moderator instead or Kris. Sorry Kris, I just haven't seen a post on here from you in a long time, and JTang is always helping just about everyone. Just my opinion though.

since you have both of them in your possesion, why dont you listen to both of them, and then decide whihc is better? instead of taking other people's oppinions...

Actually, what the JL handles depends on the model you have. My 12w6s will take 700watts each and never try to bottom out. The MTX subs don't sound bad, but the JL is a much better sub for SQ. Although, setup right, some of the MTX subs can do decent SQ and pretty good SPL. I've yet to hear an MTX match the JL w3 or w6 line, though.

Hey guys, I'm syre that JL's are good, but the one I have is the W0, so....I think compared to the MTX it isn't all that great and it only handles something like 125 watts, compared to the 400 watts by the MTX. I might try switching them out and listening to both to see which one I like best.

Well, it's all up to the listener of course. I believe in last year's August issue of Car Stereo Review, or Car Audio and Electronics, they did a sound off of the two stealths in a suburban. What you're basically looking at is the sound graph, and at each sound frequency (sond note), it's SPL. The JL and the MTX were sort of similar as I recall. All in all, though, the biggest thing they pointed out was the JL gave two more decibels of sound. Not bad, if you want to pay almost 300-400 more bucks. My hearing's bad enough now where I probably couldn't hear the difference anyway.

Hey Rock, no problem, I'm glad I could help you out. I try to help people, because I think about how much money I wasted trying to buy stuff without knowing what's going on. I wasted a lot of money along the way, and I don't want it to happen to others. Some of those salespeople can really take you for a ride, especially younger people. Knowing what I know now, I would have done things a lot different had I known. :(

I got everything hooked up, here's how I did it.

I got the stealthbox behind the panel with the MTX Thunder 6000 10" sub. That's powered by an MTX RT2200X amp (100x2, 400x1(4ohm)). I have the amp bridged and boy does it pound.

I never tried listening to both subs in the box, I just had the MTX in there and I really like it, so I just kept it in there. Plus I had the box back there already and I didn't want to have to take it out and put the other sub in there.
