How to check the lower control arm bushings on a 2012 explorer

I have a '12 explorer & recently noticed a shimmy in the steering wheel at all speeds. I rotated the tires & the shimmy remains. Also at slow speeds I hear a thump coming from the passenger front. When braking hard I hear a a noise almost as if the bushings are bad. I have replaced sway bar links, brakes,rotors etc. I am looking for information on how to check both front lower control arm bushings & what play is acceptable.
