How to Clean a Suction Gun?

Got a suction gun so I could flush and fill my Transfer case.

How do I clean the extra trans fluid out of it, without damaging the tool/hurting its performance in the future?

I would like to be able to use it to change my diff fluid but need to get the ATF out of it first.

Just flush it with a solvent.

Any solvent you would suggest?

Just suck it up with the gun and shoot it out or take it apart and clean with solvent?

I'd just take it apart... The end with the handle should unscrew, then you can remove the plunger. Flush the body and plunger with a mild solvent or something like simple green or Dawn dish soap; just make sure it's not going to soften the seal on the plunger.

Wash, rinse, repeat.
