I have read that there were several recalls on my 99 Sport, but have no idea if they were ever done. (It didn't come with maintenance records...)

Any way to find out?
Can I get them done if they still need to be done?

Thanks.

Yes, take it to a Ford dealer you prefer and they will check the VIN in the system. They can also take a look at it with the list of recall to see if they have been done as well. Since it is a recall there should not be any cost to you for this service.

Also, most recalls are safety issues and TSB's are updates not considered recalls. Most of the time you will never be notified about TSB's, but you will with recalls. While you are there I would ask them to look up all applicable TSB's(service bullitens) for your VIN. Also ask them to update your computer as well.

I found a website that lists 7 recalls for my '99 Exp. Sport. I haven't done anything about them. I'm not the original owner so I have no idea if a previous owner did either.

What is this website you speak of? is it for your explorer specifically? or generally 99 explorer sports?

and no, most of the TSBs had to be done within 3-5 years, otherwise you have to pay for it...it sucks

What is a computer update?
Presumably it is not free?

Wade,

If you go to this website, lookup the Oasis forum (which is Fords internal service records) post your VIN and specific questions about recalls or service and you will get all the info you need.

as long as you are below the mileage limit it won't matter. But yes TSB's should be done quickly.

I really can't say. I had other stuff getting fixed and the service writer said "and we'll update you computer as well". Basically the dealer will recieve random updates for their vehicles. I would guess if that is the ONLY thing you are going to have them do it would be a half hour charge. Best you can do is talk to them.

The computer is your ECM(engine control module). Where a performance chip would go.

I'm sorry but I can't seem to find it again. I looked at the other site and it looks like you have to register/login to be able find out what you're asking.

If you go to https://myford.fordvehicles.com/ you can register with your vin and it will show any outstanding recalls. Don't know if it's all of them or just the Safety and Emmissions recalls.
