i am going to be installing my stereo in my new sport. i have one question. how do i get to the rear speakers to get them out. it looks like you have to take the entire panel off of the car to get to them.

any help would be great
thanks

yup.....

Yep. thats the only way. i replaced my back 2 and poped off the grills covering them. that way next time they need to be changed it will be a lot quicker and easier. only prob is gotta watch out for people hitting the speakers in the back.

thanks guys. is it a pain in the ass to get the side panels off of the car?

All I did was take the grills off. Push down on the top of the grill and the top will pop out, then it pulls out. I might be tough the first time you do it.

IDK if the 2nd/3rd gens are different, but on mine, I just had to take out the speaker grilles to install them.

I had to take out the entire panel, but it's not really that hard. You will need a star bit to remove the back seatbelts, and use a long flat head screwdriver to pop out the fasteners (little round things that hold the plastic stuff to the metal). It helps a lot if you've got somebody to help you hold the paneling down while you maneuver your speakers.

^^ so you did not take the entire panel off just enough so you could move it so you could get the speakers in and out?

also what size speakers are in an 01 sport?

I have a 2000 sport and like zeke the grills just popped off. I was overjoyed when I saw that, it looked like a b*tch to take the entire panel off. I don't know if they changed that in the 01 or not though.

I can get some later more than likely. I'm just about to go out and mess with my car so I'll snap a couple off while I'm out there. If they are like mine you should notice them being able to move a little to the left, or up and down. If they arent they are probably plastic tabs melted through the backside and it wouldnt move at all. I'll post em for you when I get back in.

hey thanks

i am not sure what they are so more likely than not i will end up taking the panel off

Pictures of the grill removal are now posted on my car domain site.

Basically if you have removable grills you push down on the top like i am in the first picture (I would recomment using a flathead screw driver wrapped in a rag just to make it easier). Part of the top should start coming out as in the second. It should sort of fold towards you and pull out like the third. The last two pictures are of the side panel with no grill and a side view of the grill showing the tabs that hold it in.

Good luck. Its a hell of a lot easier than removing the panel if you have these.

thanks for the info. i think i have those. i will check in the morning

i just got back in from running speaker wires trough the doors and stuff. my grills do come off. i do have one other question. where did you run the main power wire through the firewall. i cant seem to locate a spot with out drilling a hole.

I'm still in the process of that myself. I think I may have found an easier way though. If you lift up the carpet on the cargo area you'll see two black gaskets, one on each side . If you pop those off you'll see a hole that goes straight to the bottom of the car. I'm planning on runnin the power cable down under the car then up through a hole in the gasket (yet to be cut) seal it with some type of caulk and then to my amp. Obviously avoiding anything under the car that moves. Personally I think its alot easier this way, no messing with trim panels, and no firewall fun. *shrug* I ran it this way on both my previous cars (a probe and a cougar). If you go through the firewall, odds are you will have to drill a hole.

Oh, and glad to hear the grills came off. Its so much easier that way :)

yea. thanks for the help. i finished installing my front compont speaker. not i have to install the rear components, amps, cap, dvd player, tv, cd changer, and get that dam power wire situated. i will let you know if i find a hole in the firewall

there is a grommet behind the gas pedal. i poked a hole through it and ran a 4 gauge wire through it and ran it along the driver side of the truck to the rear cargo area.
