There is a tool required to remove it. The tool is little "U" shaped wire that fits in the holes in front face. then gently press outward on the tools and pull the radio toward you. These tools can be gotten at most any auto store and even Walmart. you can also use a bent coat hanger if you are good.

Hope this helps

p.s. they are CHEAP :D

Easiest way is to get the Ford radio removal tools. These are at Walmart (and probably other stores). They're about $3-5, and are 2 "U" wires with nubs on the end to socket into the radio to pull it out.

One goes in on each side, vertically, into those 4 holes.

there should be two screws underneath the head unit that hold the plastic trim over the head unit. remove them then pop the whole plastic piece out of the dash, your gonna have to unclip the wire harness's that go to the 4wd switch, the rear wipers, defrosters, etc. After that i forget cause i havnt had my stock HU in for a long time. but it should be pretty obvious, im guessing a couple screws here and there.

All this is assuming that a '98 will have the same dash as a '97. im not really sure.

hope this helps,
later

Yup, you can do it that way but it's easier to use the removal tools.

o yea, forgot about the "U" shaped thingys.
